Taz69 Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 Hiya all, Just got my Ford Galaxy 2.3 Zetec, 2000 V reg, as the speakers have been beaten up in the back and grills are damaged front and back, I thought it may be a good idea to upgrade my speakers! I know there are "component" speakers up front, is there a need to upgrade the tweeter on the dash ? if so are there any there retro fit ? I assume there are crossovers on the front components so these maybe able to be kept. Am I right in thinking that the back door speakers are just standard speakers, not part of the component setup ? Also has anyone had any luck with upgrading to a nice sounding speaker system at the same as retaing the door grills ? for security aspect. Not sure on what head unit will be fitted yet, but for sure it will have MP3 at least, would like bluetooth as well for the phone not sure yet on finances etc, as planning to fit screens aswell if I pluck up the courage to cut linings etc. Thanks in advance for any comments Mark Quote
Smilge Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 (edited) Hi Taz ....... No need to replace the tweeters up the front or in the rear passenger doors. I just did a straight swap using 4 Sony XSF 1727's (2 way) and what a difference! .... If you have a look at FAQ's you'll find how to remove the door cards ...... just get yourself some yellow clips from Frauds......think about a fiver for 25. The Sony speakers were Edited February 7, 2007 by Bleeno Quote

MJR Yes I'm thinking about a sub-woofer but an active one I can stick under a seat ..... i'd want to use a pre-amp output on my head unit though Matt as you used a HI-LO converter from one of the speaker outputs, yea? Just need to find out whether mine has a pre-amp output. Any suggestions Matt? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 i used a hi to lo converter as our head unit (ford 4050) does not have pre-amp outputs. this unit wires in parallel to both speakers in the rear passenger doors (left and right). to check if you have a pre-amp output, it should be as simple as removing the head unit, and looking. what iv done, is fitted a euro standard plug/socket on the subwoofers speaker cable, so the subwoofer speaker can be removed easily when needed - iv also added a push to make locking switch to the amps trigger on/off wire, so i can turn the amp off when speaker is disconnected/or when i dont want the sub on. the HI-LO converter doesn't seem to have had any negative affects on the sound.
